Legacies
This
site tells
you about
the vital
work of the
Neurosciences
Foundation,
and how you
can support
it through
a gift in
your will.
The Foundation
relies on
the generous
support of
people like
you to continue
its work.
Leaving a
legacy to
the Foundation
invests in
the future
not
just for
the people
who need
us now
but for the
generations
to come.
There are
three main
types of
legacy:
 |
Specific
legacy
|
|
| |
This
is
the
gift
of
a specific
item,
such
as
property,
jewellery,
or
other
valuables.
|
|
 |
Pecuniary
legacy
|
|
| |
This
is
the
gift
of
a specific
amount
of
money.
Inflation
can
reduce
the
real
value
of
a pecuniary
gift,
so
it
is
a good
idea
to
review
it
from
time
to
time.

Residuary
legacy
|
|
| |
This
is
the
residue
of
your
estate,
i.e.
the
rest
of
your
property,
possessions
and
money
not
given
away
either
as
specific
or
pecuniary
legacies,
and
after
any
taxes,
debts
or
bills
have
been
paid.
This
amount
will
only
be
paid
after
your
bequests
to
family
and
friends
have
been
accounted
for
|
|
What is the
best way
to make a
charitable
bequest?
A
residuary
bequest is
one of the
easiest ways
to leave
money to
the Foundation.
You can leave
a share of
what is left
of your estate
once your
other wishes
have been
carried out.
The advantage
of this kind
of legacy
is that it
keeps in
line with
inflation
and holds
its value
over time.
If you do
prefer to
leave a specific
cash sum,
you can ask
for it to
be index-linked
to stop inflation
eroding its
value.
