Recycling Mobiles

Neurosciences Foundation launches mobile phone recycling scheme to help conquer the UK’s growing mountain of 15 million discarded mobile phones each year.

The Neurosciences Foundation has joined Community Fonebak in an effort to reduce the growing mountain of 15 million discarded mobile phones each year in the UK. In exchange for the collected phones, Community Fonebak will provide cash to support the Neurosciences Foundation.

“Over 15 million consumers upgrade their phones with accessories such as batteries and chargers each year, which equates to some 1500 tonnes of potentially hazardous landfill every year. Community Fonebak has been launched to provide a safe and environmentally responsible way for local charities and other groups to collect unwanted mobile phones and return them for cash.

“Supporters can return unwanted mobile phones and accessories to Central Library, Southern General Hospital. If anyone would like an envelope sent to them to return mobile phones to us through the internal mail system please e-mail: postgraduate.office@sgh.scot.nhs.uk

Under the Community Fonebak  scheme, phones are collected and sent to a specialist facility where each phone is rigorously tested to determine whether it will be resold or processed for materials recycling. The aim is to reuse as
many phones as possible as this has the least impact on the environment.

So if you have any old mobile phones cluttering up your home or office please send them to:
